Open set deisel generators are normally fitted in a dedicated room, either on the ground floor or basement level. The generator, fuel tank and altenator are all placed on metal skids. There is no sound proofing making these generators loud.

Canopied set deisel generators come with their own sound proofing canopies. These are generally for outdoor use in carparks or roofs. Normal sound levels for these are at 80dbA @ 1 metres noise level.

Containerised deisel generators are concieled in a weatherproof, lockable container. This container is lined with top quality sound proofing. These are usually installed outside a building in a car park or outside the intake room. Containerised deisel generators are usually larger generators above 500kVA and upward.
